Top 5 Ways Your Life is Like a House

Just as a house has rooms for specific purposes, your life should have these same "rooms" for very specific purposes. Ever wonder why all houses have the same basic rooms? Our shelter reflects elements we need in each of our lives. You need a kitchen/dining room, a living room, a family room (or den as some would call it), a bedroom and a bathroom.

Kitchen/Dining Room - Every house must have a place to prepare and consume nourishment, whether it be a cookie or a 6 course meal. The need for nourishment is key to survival. Without nourishment we would perish. We need regular intake of food to provide energy for the necessary and sometimes unnecessary activities in our life. Every feel sluggish? Time to visit the kitchen/dining room of our life to take in more energy. If your car runs out of fuel what happens? It stops, won't go, becomes pretty much useless. We are the same, without nourishment we stop and become all but useless.

Living room - Just as we need physical nourishment for our bodies, we also need social interaction to feed our spirit. Our living rooms are the gathering place for friends, acquaintances to share coffee, a cocktail, stories and time together. Without this social interaction we become reclusive, tired and one dimensional. We desperately need to interact with others whether it is at school, at work or even the local bar. Finding time to share with others is as necessary as the air we breathe.

Family room - A living room works for entertaining guests, discussing serious issues with neighbors or just sharing a moment with friends. The family room is where we share intimate moments with our family. In our life, we need to make time to spend with family. Even if it is just to sit around and discuss the events of the day or to have a family meeting about finances. It is also where most of us have our entertainment centers. Sharing a television show, a movie or just playing music can be relaxing and allow for an intimacy that is desperately needed in our lives. We must have our family close to help us through trying times and to share good times. This is one of the most important aspects or "rooms" of our lives.

Bedroom - At the end of the day, after all of the eating, drinking and activities have concluded, we need rest. We need to set time aside for rest to replenish our spirit and give us time for quiet reflection. Bedtime is one of the key components that we all share. We need a place to go for rest and relaxation. When I was a child my grandfather used to listen to his records of country/western music and gospel music. This was his time to relax before going to sleep. We should always make time to reflect on our day and just sleep so we can be ready for another day.

Bathroom - The need for cleanliness is important in our lives. The bathroom provides us a sanctuary to shed the grit and grime of the day and refresh ourselves whether it be in the morning or just before bed, or for the truly concerned, both. This is our time to be alone and it is understood that this is the one room in our life where we should not be interrupted. In our lives we need a "room" for this uninterrupted time to think and dwell on what is going on in our lives and prepare for those important events such as a date, work, school or just to relax after cleaning out the garage or mowing the yard.

So, there you have it. Rooms in a house as they relate to aspects of our life that we all need. Is there a favorite room in your life that may have not been considered?
